Every party should be a secular party.
The Secular Democrats of Texas exists to give a voice to and represent millions of secular Texans in government. The caucus is not against religion – we will work with the Texas Democratic Party and any allies of the Secular Democrats to achieve the above-mentioned goals. We believe that the Texas Democratic Party is the place for Americans who believe in equal treatment for all people, in freedom of religion, and freedom from religion.
About Us
In 2016, history was made with the first-ever Secular Caucus at the Texas Democratic Convention. In 2018, the Caucus met again with an overflow crowd. The speakers included those involved in secular awareness organizations as well as Texas Democratic candidates wishing to engage with our caucus and its mission.
The Secular Democrats of Texas pledges to work with the Texas Democratic Party in several ways. We will urge legislators, candidates, and the party to minimize emphasis on religious affiliation and to ensure that non-religious Democrats feel welcome in the party. We will endorse candidates whose platform and track record support a secular position. We will support those candidates who will help Texas and America build a stronger secular culture while protecting the religious rights of all citizens. We will strive to communicate our vision and mission throughout Texas communities to gain support and improve dialog on this sometimes sensitive issue.
